HISTORY

Art and history, the heart and soul of Tubac.  A Hohokam village between 200 and 1500, Tubac was founded in 1752 as a Spanish presidio (fort).  Tubac’s spirit is strong.

Mission San Jose Tumacacori

Father Kino established Tumacacori as a mission in January 1691, making it the oldest mission site in what is now Arizona. Today it stands as haunting reminder of our past. 

Tubac Presidio State Historic Park

Tubac Presidio State Historic Park is dedicated to preserving the history of the settlement of the territory that would eventually become Arizona. It's collection includes numerous artifacts from the 1700s.

The Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail

The de Anza Trail honors the historic route between Mexico and California. The first section of trail established in Arizona was the four mile stretch between the Mission and the Presidio and offers an excellent hiking and equestrian trail.
